Creative registry item of the month

This month our winner is Janice, who's created a registry to send her parents on a cruise to Europe for their 50th anniversary! Janice explains in her email below:

The fun stuff on your registry always get bought first!   "Just wanted to let you folks know we are so excited about being able to utilize your site to set up a registry for Mom & Dad's 50th wedding anniversary. We've been wanting to send them on a cruise for a long time, and after 50 years of marriage, they certainly don't need any more "items" for the home. This site is a blessing to us. I have to tell you, I just sent invitations out 3 days ago and we've already had 1 purchase. I am very excited and hope the site is a huge success so you can use us an example for other couples celebrating 25th or 50th anniversaries. Again, thank you so much and we'll keep you updated.

Kindest regards,
Janice"

New premium wedding websites

In March, we launched an alternative to our one-page wedding websites. Our new Premium websites are powered by MyEvent.com. We found many of our couples were creating really first-rate wedding websites with MyEvent.com, so we decided we needed to form a close partnership with them, and offer our customers a new choice!

We're continuing to offer our original one-page wedding websites for free, and the new Premium wedding websites for $9.95/month or $99 for 18 months.

Click here for more info & samples, etc.

Premium Wedding Websites Include:
  • A website address like: www.michaelandmelinda.thebigday.net
  • A huge range of styles and colors
  • Flash intro, music, and video
  • Planning tools to manage guests, invitations, RSVPs, etc.
  • Photo albums - more than 150 images!
  • Bride and Groom bios
  • Wedding party bios with photos
  • List of gift registries
  • Quizzes and polls for your guests
  • Event details and maps
  • Guest book
  • Visitor counter

Update on Cathy & Irving

We're pleased to announce that comic strip characters Cathy & Irving have raised $23,565 from their Big Day registry for the Pet Orphans of Southern California, a pet shelter where cartoonist Cathy Guisewite and her daughter volunteer.

Thank you all very much for your generosity! Cathy Guisewite tells us she's signing and mailing the last batch of autographed wedding cartoons for the donors this weekend.

Wedding bands & engagement rings
Click to see the Wedding Band guide, courtesy Blue Nile
We're big fans of Blue Nile--they're the #1 online jewelry site for good reason: not only do they have excellent prices and high quality, but make extraordinary efforts to educate their customers. Their engagement ring guide and their wedding band guide do a superb job of helping brides and grooms evaluate rings and diamonds to make an educated decision.
With Blue Nile's permission, we've provided their wedding band and engagement ring guides on TheBigDay. Click here to see the guides.

New features at TheBigDay

In the last month, we've made a number of changes to our services:
  • Linking - have a wedding web page you've created somewhere else? We have a new page full of tips on how to link directly to your registry...use our e-postcards to announce your wedding website...and graphics to use for your link. Simply log in to your registry and look for the link that says "See our tips on linking to your registry".
  • Online booking - if you'd like to book your own travel online, we now have online booking available for Hawaii and Mexico...and Las Vegas is coming soon! On our Hawaii and Mexico travel sites, you'll now see a button that says Book Online. Click that button and explore your options!
  • Confirmation numbers - when we send you the money from your registry gifts, we always send you a note that tells you exactly which gifts the money was for. We now display the confirmation numbers for those gifts in your Thank-you Notes list as well. If you haven't seen the thank-you notes list yet, you're missing one of our customers' favorite features! Login in to your registry and look for the link that says "View our thank-you notes list.".
