This month we're looking at Mauritius--a tiny island off the coast of Africa, about 400 miles east of the better-known island of Madagascar. It's a long and pricey ($1500 to $2000 per person) flight from North America, but once you're there, you'll find great luxury resorts, fabulous cuisine, and experience a marvelous blend of diverse cultures and religions. The population consists of Hindus, Creole, Chinese, Muslims and Europeans; most locals are bilingual, speaking English and French.
The island is volcanic in origin (like Hawaii), and is almost entirely surrounded by reefs. Their amazing undersea life awaits your exploration--snorkeling, scuba diving, and even a submarine are available.
Take a couple of weeks, and combine a stay at one of these resorts on Mauritius with a safari in nearby South Africa! -- Michael
