Creative registry item of the month

Nicole and Kevin are bound for Italy!

Of course, there are so many fabulous things to see, including some seriously famous sculpture. But a little cutting and pasting kept this registry item from seeming TOO serious:

A night in Florence, the city with....

The world's most famous naked man: David.
The fun stuff on your registry always get bought first!

What do you give a couple who's half an inch tall?

Click to see Cathy and Irving's registry and wedding web page   It's a world first for a comic strip bride-to-be -- Cathy and fiancé Irving are registered online at TheBigDay.com, but their gift requests are anything but ordinary.

The items listed on Cathy and Irving's gift registry will all go to benefit Pet Orphans of Southern California, a not-for-profit rescue organization for dogs and cats.

Having been raised by the "Queen of the Proper Thank You Note", cartoonist Cathy Guisewite promises that each contributor will receive a thank you from the happy couple, including an autographed copy of their wedding photo.

We're in the New York Times

November 21, 2004 - Jane Levere writes about TheBigDay in her article entitled "Skip the Toasters. Help Us Pay for a Trip to Italy", and says: "a growing number of couples are choosing to honeymoon courtesy of their guests, with the help of Internet-based registries."

Got your wedding bands yet?

Diamonds, engagement rings, & jewelry at Blue Nile.   We're big fans of Blue Nile because they've got excellent prices and selection, but also a lot of detailed, easy-to-understand information on their site to help you understand your choices when it comes to wedding bands, diamonds and engagement rings. Check out their Wedding Ring Guide.

Click on the rings at left, and look for the tab at the top of their website that says Education.

Ways your wedding can help others

Christina Friedrichsen, author of Intimate Weddings: Planning a Small Wedding that Fits Your Budget and Style, is our guest writer this month.

She's got some great ideas on how your wedding can be a celebration that also helps others who are less fortunate.

Her book is available at Amazon.com.

"I was talking to a university student during my recent book signing who was planning a wedding. We were discussing wedding favors, and she told me that instead of giving out favors, she and her hubby-to-be were going to be making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society and to a local animal shelter. What a fabulous idea, I thought!

Here are some ways that you can use your wedding as an opportunity to give:

  • Instead of favors, make donations in each guest’s name to charity. Place a card on each place setting, letting guests know about the donation.
  • Donate your flowers to a nursing home or hospital.
  • Donate your leftover food to a local food bank. Make arrangements beforehand for the food bank to pick up food after the reception.
  • After the wedding, have your bridesmaids donate their dresses to Operation Fairy Dust, an organization that takes gently used gowns and gives them to underprivileged teens for proms and graduation.
As they say “It feels better to give than to receive” – even on your wedding day!"
