Creative registry item of the month

This month our winners are Kymberli & James, who are honeymooning later this year in Las Vegas! Now I guess all they need to find is something "borrowed"...

We Got the Blues

...for the Blue Man Group!! One of the most unique and colorful shows Vegas has to offer and a definite on our 'gotta see it' list! Show overview:

Blue Man Group is a creative organization best known for its award-winning theatrical productions which critics have described as "ground-breaking", "hilarious", "visually stunning" and "musically powerful."

These performances feature three enigmatic bald and blue characters who take the audience through a multi-sensory experience that combines theatre, percussive music, art, science and vaudeville into a form of entertainment that is like nothing else.
The fun stuff on your registry always get bought first!

Is your officiant legal?

Click to visit the National Association of Wedding Officiants website Photo credit: RHS Photo.   Our friend (and past customer!) Reverend Christopher Tuttle is president of the National Association of Wedding Officiants, and tells us that the #1 question couples ask them is: "Is my officiant legal to perform my ceremony?"

"With so many online and mail order ordinations and certifications available, couples should take a close look at the certification their independent Officiant holds. Some states, as well as individual cities and communities have strick guidelines on who can solemnize a wedding" he says.

They'll help you check to make sure your officiant is legal for you...for free! Just visit www.nawoonline.com and fill out their form.

Options for your head table

Our guest columnist this month is Christina Friedrichsen, author of Intimate Weddings: Planning a Small Wedding that Fits Your Budget and Style.

Christina has some great ideas for alternatives to the traditional head table.

Her book is available at Amazon.com.

Maybe you don’t want a head table. Maybe you don’t want to be seated at a table that makes you feel like you are on stage and set apart from your wedding guests. Maybe you want something more intimate. Lots of couples are forgoing the traditional head table for one of the following seating arrangements:
  • The Sweetheart Table – This seems to be the most popular alternative to the head table. It only includes you and your significant other and can be situated wherever you want. John and Kerry, for instance, chose to sit at a sweetheart table in the middle of the room. “The other tables formed a circle around us. It was a great feeling to be surrounded by our families and friends. I recommend it all the time to friends planning weddings.”
  • The Community Table – If you’re having a very small guest list, why not have everyone sit at the same table. You can’t beat that for intimacy! This format worked out beautifully for Shannon and Robert, who had only eight guests at their wedding. “The entire evening we felt as though we had just our friends over for dinner. It was truly amazing,” says Shannon. If you have a larger guest list you can do what Mellinda and Rondell did. They had 57 guests at their medieval themed wedding, and had guests sit at a “U” shaped table – with the head table at the bottom of the “U”.
  • The “I’ll Sit With Whomever I Want” Table – Maybe you’ll have a small wedding party (or won’t have one at all). Why not include your closest family members at your table? At our wedding, my husband and I chose this option and we wouldn’t have had it any other way!

Update on Cathy & Irving

Click here to visit Cathy and Irving's registry   As many of you know, the cartoon characters Cathy and Irving got married in the comic strip on February 5th.

TheBigDay has hosted their wedding registry--all items on their registry are donations to the Pet Orphanage of Southern California, where cartoonist Cathy Guisewite and her daughter volunteer. To date, Cathy fans have donated over $22,000!

Items you can donate start at $10--if you'd like to help out, visit their registry before the end of March.

New look for the registry list

Thanks to all the members of TheBigDay's Customer Advisory Group, who helped us come up with a new look for the registry--including thumbnail images of each item in your registry.

The Customer Advisory Group members helped us tune our design so that it showcased the images of the items that our couples have found for their registries, while still making the list usable by wedding guests who have slower internet connections.

Wait until you see the new features we have planned for this next month!
