Hurricane Katrina
|
|
|
Our hearts go out to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The American Red Cross is a charity that we believe in and
personally support--and they're doing a lot to help those impacted by the hurricane. You can help too, by going
to Red Cross to make a donation or see what other ways you
can contribute.

Married by blog?
|
Nina Callaway at
weddings.about.com
found this little gem: apparently a couple from Texas
discovered that Texas law says for a informal marriage to be legal,
two people must publically declare that they consider themselves to be married,
must have lived together as husband and wife,
and must represent to other residents of Texas that they are married.
So the couple each posted their wedding vows on their own blogs, and that made them officially married!

3 things Michael learned from his own wedding
|
Yep, I finally got married myself last month...and Terry, my co-founder, got married in July (félicitations, Terry et Pascale!)
A couple of Big Days for TheBigDay founders :-)
We learned a few things by being our own customers, of course. Here are three tips
from my own experience that might help you with your own wedding:
- Having a buffet dinner at the reception? Ask a family member to scoot to the front of the
line and get your two dinners for you...otherwise you'll never eat! And you've got toasts, and
the dances, and you'll want to visit with everyone...etc.
- Make sure your food and wine contracts are negotiated and signed MONTHS ahead. If you're like
us, and the vendor stalls and makes promises and excuses month after month, you could find yourself
staring at a wine contract with a 500% markup 10 days before the wedding, and you can't do a thing about it.
- If you've got a wedding coordinator...GREAT! You'll be glad you did. If you don't, ask a family member
who's good with the details to be your "go to" person the day of the wedding. The last thing you want to do is be
dragged into some last-minute detail about table arrangements or seating or flowers that aren't here yet when you're
getting ready for your photos. A big thank-you to Melinda's cousin Patti...you rock!
So...we're off on my honeymoon at the end of this month, returning in October--this means the next Big Day wedding newsletter will
be November 1st. I'll try to bring back a good pic of Mel & I in the Seychelles for that newsletter.
