Watersports
Snorkelling is a fantastic way to explore the wonders of the reef. At Orpheus Island Resort, they take pride in the fact that every person in the water who is snorkelling or diving has the highest standards of skills necessary for their own safety and for the preservation of the Reef areas they frequent.
Discover Snorkelling
If you have ever just been put in a life jacket and left floating on a line, that will never happen here at Orpheus Island Resort. Even if you can't swim, the PADI Discover Snorkelling Pool Training will teach you the necessary skills to explore the underwater world with total confidence. If you have never snorkelled before, or would simply like to refine your existing skills, this will have you snorkelling like a professional in no time.
Picnic & snorkel Cruise
Join your activities staff on a day of premium snorkelling and gourmet picnic dining. Commence the day with a visit to one of their many premium snorkelling sites, followed by a gourmet seafood picnic lunch and some well deserved relaxing before visiting another snorkelling site on the return to Orpheus. A must for avid snorkellers!
Adventure Interpretive Snorkel
Sign up for an adventure of a lifetime as you embark on a voyage of discovery. Join their Marine Naturalist and head out to the best snorkelling spot for the day in the Palm Island Group. This informative guided snorkel offers explanation of the pristine coral reef ecosystem, and the symbiotic relationships between marine animals. A certificate of participation in their Orpheus Island Ecology Program is awarded on your return.
Local Island or Outer Barrier Reef Fishing Trips
Half or full day fishing charters can also be arranged upon request. Fishing charters can be a combination of bottom line, light tackle or heavy tackle fishing. A day of fishing in a fully equipped vessel with its experienced and qualified crew is guaranteed to grab you hook, line and sinker.
Sunset Cruise
A perfect way to end an awesome Orpheus day. Enjoy a hosted cruise out into Hazard Bay to witness the sun setting over the Australian coastline. Relax and unwind as you are served pre-dinner nibbles and sip endless glasses of champagne .. The ultimate romantic indulgence!
Scuba
Orpheus Island is a true Great Barrier Reef island. The surrounding waters contain what is regarded by experts to be some of the best coral on the entire Barrier reef. The islands fringing reef are best explored by snorkelling or diving - 1,100 species of fish and 340 of the 350 known species of reef coral.
ADVANCE BOOKINGS REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES: To avoid any disappointment, they ask that you advise us at the time of booking if you would like to dive whilst staying at Orpheus Island Resort. Failure to do so may result in the inability to dive due to no availability.
Discover Scuba Diving
Come and experience the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and swim with vibrant corals and schools of tropical fish. Their highly trained instructor will teach you all the basic theory and familiarise you with the equipment before landing you on a safe and controlled dive with limited depth. If you really enjoy the Discover Scuba course it can be accredited to your open water certification. The course consists of a 30-minute lecture followed by a shallow water training session and then your first dive to a maximum depth of 30 feet.
Island Reef Dive
This local scuba dive takes you to one of the many convenient dive sites throughout the Palm Island Group onboard their fast dive vessel. Each dive is guided by their experienced Instructors/Dive Masters who will ensure a unique inner reef experience. Average visibility around the islands is 9-12 metres (30-40 feet).
Outer Reef Dive & Snorkel Excursion
Embark on a full day trip to the outer barrier reef for a sensational day on the water. Enjoy an unforgettable experience which can include two guided dives discovering a myriad of marine life, the opportunity to swim and snorkel, and lounge in the sun while been tempted by a fabulous smorgasbord lunch. This trip is conducted by a private charter vessel operator.
