Activities
On LandJoin us for local village excursions, rain forest hikes to waterfalls, mangrove adventures, reef flat walks, basket weaving and Fijian story telling narrated by our local Fijian Cultural Host, Niumaia. Don't miss Niumaia's Medicinal Plant Walk. We are also the only property in Fiji that has a full-time, resident marine biologist, who is on hand to explain our island's flora, fauna and sea life. Sports enthusiasts can play tennis on our court set among the gardens, or join the staff in a game of volleyball (but be warned they rarely lose!). Our fitness center is equipped with free weights and strength conditioning equipment -- so stick with your regime, or start a new one. In the WaterRefresh your mind and body with laps in our freshwater swimming pool just steps from the ocean. Explore the local clam project by snorkeling off our jetty, or take the glass bottom boat to snorkel on the outer reefs accompanied by our Marine Biologist to explain the area's extraordinary diversity. Or dive in to scuba -- the L'Aventure team offers a full range of dive opportunities and experiences, from beginner to expert level. On the WaterSail a Hobie Cat over crystal clear waters, skim the reef by kayak, or discover the astonishing sea life from the comfort of our glass bottom boat. Take a fishing trip around Savusavu, and bring your catch back to our Chef. He'll prepare it as you wish for dinner! EveningEnjoy the music of our local band every night but Sunday, or join in around the Tanoa bowl and share Fiji's traditional drink, Kava.
Scuba
Water enthusiasts will be in heaven at Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort, where warm, clear waters tempt both above and below the waves. Known as the "Soft Coral Capital of the World," Fiji offers the largest variety of fish and coral anywhere in the world. Small reef dwellers and large ocean pelagics (a class of fish that includes barracuda, tuna, sharks) swim among the colorful reefs near the resort. Divers of all skill levels will delight in the award-winning facilities at the resort, which is the "World's Best for Diving," according to Harpers Abroad. (January 2003) For beginners, their expert dive staff will welcome and guide you into the underwater world. Expert divers can do their own thing. They provide PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) certified courses and Nitrox fills.
Weddings
A wedding is a highlight of your life. Celebrating your marriage in Fiji, with us at Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort, will be a joyful experience you will treasure always. On the Beach at SunsetMany weddings at the resort take place on a private expanse of beachfront at sunset. It is customary for two Fijian Warriors to carry the bride up the beach to her groom. The procession is accompanied by the blowing of conch shells and beating of Lali drums. The marriage ceremony can be performed by a minister, priest or celebrant, as the couple prefers. They offer three choices for music performed during the ceremony: string band, the Fijian Village Choir or the Church Choir.
Local Area
The resort caters to couples, honeymooners and those seeking an adventurous holiday. Dive (or undertake a dive course) with highly trained diver instructors and marine biologists in waters that have been rated "among the healthiest and most biologically abundant in the tropics" (LA Times Magazine); partake in an early morning yoga class to relax the mind and soul; go hiking to waterfalls; or simply relax and sooth your body with one of the varied spa treatments available.
