Aruna, one of our South Pacific specialists here at TheBigDay, recently returned from a trip home to Fiji to visit her family. While she was there, she visited a number of her favorite resorts, including Likuliku, which was still under construction (December 2006...see her slideshow). The resort has since opened. Aruna returned to Likuliku for a following inspection in late summer 2007, and took these pictures. Once upon a time across the bluest of oceans, an island was born of lava and sand - an untouched paradise whose heart was a turquoise lagoon of unimaginable beauty and tranquility. The first visitors came and explored. To honour the magic of the place, they named it "Likuliku", meaning "calm waters". Here, in the middle of the Mamanuca archipelago, is where Fiji's newest luxury escape, just for couples, will be born. You arrive at Masima Island in the middle of the Lagoon. Blue waters beneath your feet - is it possible that colour is real? Here you will be greeted with a traditional Fijian welcome and then escorted to your Bure to begin your magical experience. There are only 46 bures at Likuliku Lagoon Resort - all fully air-conditioned and ten of which will be suspended over the magnificent Lagoon - the first of their kind in Fiji. Over-Water Bure
The exquisite blue of Likuliku Lagoon is sparkling. It is morning, and the sun's rays engrave light into the clearest of waters breathing life into the living aquarium over which you have slept.
Like the entire Resort, these Bures feature traditional architecture and materials using natural elements unique to the region. Elegant and stylish pieces surround you and you wonder at the detail in the woodwork, the "magimagi" designs, and the richness of the fabrics.
Laze on your deck or luxuriate in your separate bathing pavilion. All Bures will feature air-conditioning, music systems, phones, internet access, a DVD player, daily amenities - including Chef's Canape Plate and a blissful King bed.

Deluxe Beachfront Bure

Beachfront Bure
Only steps from the pristine beach and crystal clear Lagoon, these eighteen Beachfront Bures offer a secluded haven of relaxation and privacy.

Surrounded by lush landscaping and the music of local fauna, these Bures will feature air-conditioning, music systems, phones, internet access, daybed retreat, private courtyard and outdoor shower, spacious deck and beautiful interiors.

Dining
Freshly caught fish, free range eggs, and luscious herbs fresh from the Resort's own gardens. Menus will change daily and feature modern Pacific Rim and traditional Fijian influences. Dine indoors, al fresco on the terrace or beachside, or perhaps a candlelit dinner in the wine cellar. A small private function area will cater for those intimate celebrations or group events.
"Fijiana"
Likuliku's signature and only restaurant, "Fijiana" will enchant the senses with innovative cuisine. "Dua Tale"
Relax to the sounds of a local guitar amidst muted tones and soft light. This is "Dua Tale" - the Resort's lounge bar. With stunning ocean views, "Dua Tale" will offer a broad array of specialty wines and cocktails. The place to come for a pre-dinner aperitif or nightcap or perhaps just a quiet reflection on another memorable day.
"Masima Bar"
Located on Masima Island - "Masima Bar" will be a rustic and relaxing place to savour the sights and sounds of the Lagoon whilst the last flares of another magnificent Fiji sunset race across the Southern skies.

Learn about the ancient sites of Likuliku including, the old village of Yaro and Potters Cave, Vatu Tagi "weeping rock", Vatu Tabu "sacred wishing rock" and Yadra Vula - a significant site of early Fijian habitation listed with the Fiji Museum.
