Description
Inspired by The Arabian Nights, this hotel's collection of 28 suites is housed in whitewashed structures that combine curvy Moorish domes and thatched palapa roofs, each with a balcony or terrace designed to entice weary travelers to gaze out over the ocean and dream of the wonders that lie ahead. Staircases lined with graceful palm trees and endless rows of bright yellow hibiscus meander through the property and down to the infinity swimming pools and the hotel's private beach club.
Quinta Real Huatulco's two 90-foot domes have become symbolic beacons to those seeking total relaxation. Guests can sense the soothing atmosphere from the moment they arrive, when they are welcomed with a moist scented towel and a refreshing glass of sparkling wine. They quickly succumb to the magic of the hotel, whose spacious design creates the sensation of escape and intimacy, making guests feel that they are the only ones around.
When they decide to venture out of their suites, most stroll down the beach club (or take the shuttle service from the lobby) where they can request a poolside or beachside massage, play in the infinity pools, cool off with an ice margarita, savor a seafood cocktail at La Cuija restaurant, and watch the colony of green iguanas, who make their home in the coconut palms, receive their afternoon feeding.
Accommodations
A fusion of the architectural heritages of Mexico and Morocco, the suites, inspired by the The Arabian Nights, sublimely combine precious woods, polished cement floors and thatched roofs with white cupolas and intricate latticework. Expansive and exquisitely appointed with rich fabrics and textures, they are decorated in cream-and-white, with hardwood Mexican furnishings and regional artwork. The marble bathrooms feature slippers, Hermes bath accessories, bathrobes, and a fabulous large oval spa tub (jacuzzi) for complete relaxation. Each suite has a private balcony or terrace with full or partial ocean views where you are lulled to rest by the rhythm of gently washing waves.
Guests seeking the ultimate in luxury and intimacy reserve a suite with a private pool.
MASTER SUITES
These six ample suites offer rich amenities, luxurious cream and white décor, hand-painted, hardwood Mexican furniture and wrought iron accents. All feature a private balcony with partial ocean view, inviting soflty lit bedrooms, and a marble bathroom with Jacuzzi, the perfect antidote to a day of sun, sand and sea.
GRAND CLASS SUITES
Spacious and luxurious, the Grand Class suites (eight feature a private pool) offer low-key allure combined with stunning views of Tangolunda Bay. For the ultimate in relaxation, stretch out on the hammock-strung terrace for tantalizing glimpses of the waves breaking agains the shore and the faultless blue sky.
PRESIDENTIAL SUITE
For the ultimate in pampering, this expansive suite features an open-air, palm-thatched palapa, terrace, two king-size bedrooms, dining room, living room, bar and private pool, his and her bathrobes, Hermes bath accessories, as well as extraordinary ocean views from almost every corner—even from the bathroom jacuzzi. Two additional suites can be adjoined for larger parties.
Dining
Two magnificent twin-domed buildings, set high on a cliff, house Quinta Real’s restaurant and the bar. They offer stunning bay views and a flavor festival that includes the best local, regional and international dishes, as well as exotic cocktails and a choice selection of wines. Enjoy the sun setting over the Pacific from the breezy terrace of Las Cúpulas bar, while you sip a frosty mezcal a la tamarindo.
When the sky fills with millions of sparkling stars, it is time to head next door to La Cúpulas Restaurant to dine al fresco or in air-conditioned comfort on camarones flambée, fresh juicy shrimp set aflame with tequila and served with a magical sauce prepared with chipotle and cream.
Activities
Cruises of Huatulco's Nine Bays
Huatulco’s greatest attractions are its bays—Conejos, Tangolunda, Chahue, Santa Cruz, El Organo, El Mague, Cacaluta, Chachacual and San Agustin— and intimate beaches. Visit them on a catamaran or yacht, or enjoying a sunset cruise. Several of the bays are accessible only by sea. To explore them, take a lancha (small motor boat) from the marina in Santa Cruz or from the beach in front of the hotels.
Snorkeling
Favorite spots for beginners and experts are La Entrega and Cacaluta beaches. La Entrega is a protected marine park on Santa Cruz Bay. Opposite the beach, a 640-foot-long natural reef harbors more than 700 species of colorful fish and other sea life.
Diving
Huatulco is home to the largest coral reefs and banks of North America's west coast, and experienced dive instructors are at your service to make your dives fun and safe. Favorite scuba diving spots are the reefs off Cacaluta and La Montosa islands, Bufadero, where there’s a sunken ship, Los Duendes and El Tigre, areas typical of the Pacific, where the big fish swim among large rock formations.
White water rafting
Two rivers in the region, the Copalita and Zimatan, provide white water rafting opportunities, ranging from a Class I degree of difficulty to a Class V. These tours allow visitors to meet indigenous cultures and get to know out-of-the-way places, while maintaining a close contact with nature.
Golf
The 18-hole Tangolunda Bay Golf Course, with incredible views of the Pacific Ocean and the mountains, is reputedly the most beautiful public course in the country.
Coffee Plantations
This tour offers an opportunity to learn about the cultivation and processing of the coffee bean, sample the quality, and enjoy the scenery, while spending time with the local people and getting to know their traditions.
Fishing
Huatulco’s waters are home to great quantities of tuna, dolphin (mahi mahi), blue, black and striped marlin, sailfish, grouper, snapper and many others.
Mexican Turtle Center
A popular day trip from Huatulco is a visit to the turtle research and conservation center in Mazunte. Visitors can see most of the world’s variety of marine turtles at Mazunte’s aquarium.
Jungle Tours
Tour through Huatulco's marvelous tropical vegetation, on an ATV, on horseback, mountain bike or on foot, while observing a large number of birds, plants, trees and animals native to the region.

Local Area
The southernmost major resort on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, Huatulco is located in the state of Oaxaca, about 104 km east of Puerto Escondido, 30 minutes by plane from the city of Oaxaca, one of Mexico’s most beautiful colonial cities, and a 50 minute flight from the nation’s capital. Mexicana flies in daily from Mexico City to Huatulco’s International Airport and Continental flies in twice a week from Houston.
The Quinta Real Huatulco, perfectly situated on Tangolunda Bay, is 25 minutes from the Huatulco International Airport, next door to the golf club, and just a short distance by car from the towns of Santa Cruz and La Crucecita.
Huatulco is blessed with the idyllic climate typical of most of Mexico’s Pacific Coast, with year-round temperatures averaging 85º F, with a wintertime low of 57º F and a high of 100º F during the summer months. From October to June it seldom rains and showers cool temperatures during the rainy season, from July to October. Dress is casual during the day, upscale resort wear is customary at night.
The country’s southernmost Pacific Coast resort, Huatulco encompasses 18 miles of cove-jagged coastline on nine lovely bays. The complex is absolutely stunning: Beach after beach is framed by white sands and the jagged peaks of the Sierra Madre del Sur, perfectly set off the cerulean blue waters.
Huatulco is comprised of three distinct sections—Tangolunda (the Hotel Zone), Santa Cruz, which is home to the marina and several restaurants, and La Crucecita (the town created to house the resort’s employees and their families.)
