Description

Oceanfront buildings rest on a large stone retaining wall. Hillside villas have panoramic sea views. Many of the suites have private pools and all have either a private balcony or terrace. Our rooms and suites surround you in luxurious comfort with antiques, exotic woods and marble baths. Our poised and dedicated staff are the core of the Horned Dorset Primavera experience. Each member is a reflection of our high standards and commitment to excellent service and cuisine.

Accommodations

Conceived in 2001 as a small village adjoining the sea front suites of the original hotel, these 1400 square feet, two-story, king-bedded town house suites all have private terraces and plunge pools facing the endless horizon of the Straits of Mona. Furnished in custom Spanish, Dutch, and Caribbean mahogany and teak, these lush spaces reach back to the 17th Century Spanish Empire of Carlos I when all those countries were under his reign and his galleons were claiming the Americas for his empire.

Superior Deluxe
The superior deluxe suites are generous in size, and many are directly on the sea wall with wonderful ocean views and privacy. These suites all have separate living room and bedrooms. All are queen bedded, air-conditioned, with full marble bathrooms and either a terrace or balcony.

Mesa Suites
There are four mesa suites. These oversized rooms have a separate living room and Queen Bedrooms. l-Shaped terraces allow panoramic views of the gardens and caribbean sea. A semi-private pool and garden is for the use of these four suites. Full marble bathrooms, air-conditioning.

Casa Escondida King
Two are complemented by roof-top 500 square foot private sun terraces reached by a private staircase. Two others have spacious balconies perched right on the Caribbean Sea.

Mirador Suite
The Mirador suite is a free standing villa, formerly the owner's cottage, now converted into a suite with a King Bedroom which has tromp l'oeil tented ceilings, a large living room with whimsical antiques, a wrap around balcony and terrace with plunge pool. Panoramic views of the property, gardens, and sea, and complete privacy. The bathroom is full marble with soaking tub, double vanities, and Italian light fixtures.

Dining

The Cuisine at the Horned Dorset follows the cycle of the tropical day; Breakfast is served al fresco in The Verandah, on the Terrace of the Blue Room, or in the privacy of your suite. Room service is available for light, cold snacks throughout the day, and the beach and pool areas are fully staffed so that a Puerto Rican Rum Punch is never too far away.

After watching the setting sun from the terrace overlooking the Caribbean Sea, guests may dine either soothed by the Steinway, crystal, and silver of the Formal Dining Room, or surrounded by the vivid colors and bistro flavors of the Blue room and its romantic outdoor terrace at the edge of the sea before retiring for the night.

Activities

Although there are no scheduled activities at the hotel, there are many recreational activities in our area including wonderful snorkeling and sea kyaking directly in front of the hotel on the caribbean sea. The town of Rincon hosted the 1969 World Surfing Championship and boasts the best surfing in the Caribbean. The nearby island of Desecheo offers clear-water and sheer underwater cliffs for diving that rivals the Galapagos. Boats can be chartered by our staff for deep-sea fishing and snorkeling/diving expeditions.

On land, horseback riding, excursions to nearby coffee plantations, colonial towns, art museums, and typical Puerto Rican mountain villages, can all be arranged with ease by our helpful staff. The Areceibo radio telescope is 1 hour by car, and Golfing at Dorado Beach can be arranged as a day-trip. Tennis is available at a private court ten minutes from the hotel, on a bluff overlooking the Caribbean sea.

At night, their driver will be happy to show those seeking "real" Salsa and Merengue the local club scene. Shopping on the West Coast of Puerto Rico is somewhat limited, however the hotel stocks local treasures in the Primavera Boutique, along with essential items of clothing, and some special ceramic pieces exclusive to the hotel.
