Description
The Seychelles lie in the heart of the Indian Ocean and are considered one of the last earthly paradises with lush vegetation and an abundant variety of animal life. The international airport is on the main island of Mahé, which is home to 90% of the 81,000 Seychellois. Desroches Island lies about 6° South of the Equator and is the largest island of the Amirantes Group of islands, a remote coral atoll. Return airfare from the U.S. ranges from $1600 to $2000 per person, depending upon the time of year.
Accommodations

A bathrobe and personal care products are provided for each guest. The private terrace with sea view is the ideal spot for unforgettable moments.
Several of the sunset photos in our photo album were taken from our private terrace, in fact.
The bathroom has an open-air shower and a separate tub...a very nice touch.

Activities
Fishing - the resort has a boat available for deep-sea fishing. The waters are extremely rich in fish life. Just cast out your bait and maybe soon you'll hook a marlin, wahoo or tuna.
Cycling - the resort provides bicycles for all guests. The island is about 3 miles long, and there are several easy paths to ride along to explore the entire island. Watch for the giant tortoises sleeping under the palms!
Tennis - tennis courts are available under the palm trees.
Scuba
You can dive here year round, for the water surrounding the island is crystal clear. In order to protect this valuable undersea world, diving in the Seychelles is subject to certain rules, and the use of harpoons is forbidden. The region around Desroches Island offers spectacular steep cliffs and a variety of caves. The coral reefs around the island are among the most beautiful in the world, and the waters are extremely rich in fish life. The dive center offers excursions to 14 different dive spots, which can be reached in 20 minutes or less. A complete set of equipment, including tanks, can be rented. The nearest decompression chamber is on Mahé. See their local scuba diving photo gallery. DIVE SITESAll dive sites are no further than 20 minutes away by boat. They always do pick-up dives - the boat follows closely, ready to pick-up divers quickly as soon as they surface. Canyon - A formation of large stone rocks with some very nice swim throughs and a real canyon (long and narrow) where lots of soft and gorgonian fan corals grow. The fish life is remarkable: big shoals of snapper, fusilier, sweetlips and sleeping stingrays. Nurse sharks especially like this spot for a little nap underneath the rocks. Big Cave - A challenge for the experienced diver...it's deep and dark. The long tunnel is 6 m wide and goes straight into the reef wall – it ends after 60 m in a large round cavern. Sometimes we find sleeping nurse sharks and turtles searching for a quiet place. The best part is on the way back when you start to see the entrance again – a blue hole with terrific light which guides you back all the way to reality. Airport Reef - A big overhang is the main area to explore on this dive site. See the famous sea grass pipefish living together with napoleons and bumphead parrotfish. Grey reef sharks and turtles may also be encountered. The rest of the wall is completely covered with lots of colourful soft corals. Secret Passage - Away from the main reef we find a huge rock. On one side there is the secret passage that leads as a tunnel from 24 m up to 18 m. Inside you may find lionfish, lobster and glassfish. Once outside the water is full of fusilier, snapper, young barracuda as well as some big old guys. Mini Wall - While drifting along this beautiful wall, you can explore big and small overhangs which are full of soft and gorgonian fan corals. Particular kinds of nudibranchs, snails and a variety of moray eels can also be spotted. Eagle Rays, Turtles and Napoleons are often seen in the open water. The above mentioned dive sites are only a small selection of what is on offer. They have many more great dive sites to visit – convenient sites for beginners and challenging ones for experienced and advanced divers.

Awards
"Very private and secluded, with first-class service and cuisine. Terrific scuba diving, amazing views, and a wonderful spa tucked away among the tall palm trees. Check out the giant tortoises on your way to The Aquarium (main picture above)...the best snorkeling on the island, yet we found it entirely to ourselves when we were there!" My wife Melinda and I spent part of our honeymoon on Desroches Island...what a fantastic place! With more staff than guests, the service was stellar.
Spectacular diving too--of course, when you're 200 miles from the next nearest island and 1000 miles from the nearest continent, it's HIGHLY unlikely that you'll run into another diver at any dive site. Or any other boats at all, for that matter!
We spent an afternoon snorkeling at a beach called The Aquarium. Brochures in our room indicated that this was the most popular snorkeling spot on the island--but with so few guests, we shouldn't have been surprised that we had the entire beach to ourselves...probably 1/2 mile of the purest whitest sand you can imagine, and an amazing shallow reef to explore.
