Description

Great care has been taken to ensure the resort blends in with these untouched natural surroundings. The five white sand beaches are complemented by just 37 guest rooms that are dwarfed by the coconut palms and charmingly styled with their island-setting in mind. Activities are low-key and generally focused upon the sand and the sea, while dining is always a breeze-cooled beachfront affair, the delicious Euro-Caribbean cuisine taking full advantge of freshly-caught seafood and locally-grown vegetables.

Yet Palm Island is not just a resort. It's a place where guests slow down, recharge their batteries and gradually rediscover the wonders of nature. Panoramic walking trails show off indigenous iguanas and interesting birdlife. Visiting yachts and traditional beach homes contribute a sense of authentic island life. And boat trips to the world-famous Tobago Cays ensure visitors leave with a great ‘sense of place'.

Accommodations

8 Palm View Rooms

These spacious rooms are housed in two separate buildings set slightly back in the gardens. They all feature a sitting area and private furnished terrace looking out towards the swimming pool or the beach. Features include a king-size bed (4 have canopy beds) and a large bathroom with a deep-soaking tub and separate shower. Pull-out beds are also available.

20 Beachfront Cottages

These 20 cottages are housed in ten separate buildings right on the beachfront. All boast furnished private terraces with views of the Caribbean Sea and nearby Union Island. Features include king-size beds, small sitting areas and bathrooms with showers only (no tubs).

4 Plantation Suites

These four Plantation Suites are housed in a two-storey building set slightly back in the gardens - two upstairs and two downstairs. Features include two queen-size sleigh beds, a separate sitting area, a bathroom with a double shower (no bath tub) and a covered furnished terrace or balcony with views of the ocean and gardens. Ideal for families, they can each accommodate 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children.

5 Island Lofts

Three of the stilted island lofts are individual wooden cottages set slightly back in the gardens. They have two queen-size beds, sitting areas, deep-soaking tubs, separate showers, private terraces and ocean views. Two are housed in a shared wooden building right on the beach and feature king-size beds, deep-soaking tubs, separate showers, private terraces and views over the ocean towards the Tobago Cays.

Dining

On Palm Island, all meals and drinks (by the glass) are included in stays. The elegant ‘Royal Palm' restaurant sits right on the white sands, every meal accompanied by ocean views and sea breezes.

Days can begin with seasonal fruits and freshly-baked croissants, or maybe banana pancakes, ‘Eggs Benedict' or a made-to-order omelette.

The extensive lunch menu showcases anything from exotic salads and tasty pizzas to fresh pastas and local specialities such as Caribbean Jerk chicken. Or for a special occasion why not order a picnic lunch and enjoy it in romantic seclusion on one of our Atlantic beaches?

After dark, the mood becomes decidedly elegant. Most guests meet for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in the intimate beachfront bar, perhaps trying a rum punch before moving through to the restaurant. Dining is by lamplight, the a la carte menu featuring a wide range of choices that fuse international tastes with fresh Caribbean ingredients. Home-made clam chowder, pan-seared fish or broiled medallions of pork, are just a few of the delights in store.

The Manager's cocktail party and weekly Caribbean buffets combine with the regular evening entertainment to create a uniquely sociable ambience.

Palm Island also has a more informal beachfront restaurant, the ‘Sunset Grill'. Open to visiting yachtsmen, it offers an extensive lunch and dinner menu, its tables either inside or right on the sands.
