Costa Rica Vacations Overview

Help on using features on this page

This Central American country borders the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Possessing one of the more stable economies and governments in the region, Costa Rica is a popular choice for sun-seeking tourists.

Despite its limited size--the country is slightly smaller than West Virginia--Costa Rica contains some of the amazing bio-diversity in the world. The country of 4.1 million inhabitants has capitalized on this natural resource, protecting many forests and animals with national parks while encouraging eco-tourism. The most popular attractions include the Arenal Volcano, the Manuel Antonio National Park and the Cloud Forest Reserves.

Most visitors fly into the international airport located closely to the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose. Non-stop flights from Europe, major hubs in the United States and surrounding countries are frequent.

Locally produced products include wood souvenirs and excellent coffee. Try the salsa lizano--the Costa Rican ketchup--and fresh fruit. Fermented sugar cane makes up the national drink, guaro.
