St. Kitts and Nevis reflects the layered history of the Caribbean, with French and English town names. However, it has decidedly Victorian architecture and British tendencies, favoring cricket. In 2007, the country became the smallest nation ever to host a World Cup event after serving as a venue for the Cricket World Cup. St. Kitts and Nevis can be reached via flights from the South, Toronto the southern East Coast, Puerto Rico and other Caribbean islands.

Land tours are very popular – taxi drivers will often serve a guides for a negotiated price. Make sure to tour the old British fortifications and the forests, keeping an eye out for exotic tropical birds and monkeys. Although the country was built the sugar trade, tourism is now the chief money-maker as the sugar mills were closed after the 2005 harvest.

Compared with closer-in islands like Puerto Rico and the USVI, St. Kitts and Nevis receives less than a third of the number of tourists. With 340,000 visitors annually, this is approximately 10 times the national population.
